So Jackson's interpretation of the scene might not have been that far off from the original mark. There was no blood or gore but the imagery was enough, especially at the time, to be cut from the final movie. The exact contents are pretty much all hear-say but I recall reading that it even involved one guy getting ripped in half by two spider-like creatures and then eaten. Do we have any idea of what the actual '33 spider scene creatures looked like?To my understanding all of the actual film of the pit scene was destroyed at the studio's request because they found it far too graphic and disturbing, like people became ill at the first screening kind of reactions. I know Jackson did the scene, in a bit over the top way.
